Drum Lessons are designed for students from 5 years old to adults. Young beginners (5 to 6) are evaluated for readiness. Students will learn multiple styles including: from Rudimental Drumming to Classical, from Rock and Jazz, to Latin drum set styles. Lessons focus on musical literacy, technique, music theory (rhythm, scales, and chords), as well as developing a vocabulary for basic and advanced drumming rudiments, solo and ensemble performance, and applying popular music to percussion. Drum lessons at our Academy are enhanced by the multiple performing opportunities to showcase a solo performance or jam with other musicians in our state of the art theater!

WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN YOUR MUSIC LESSONS
Students start by learning fundamentals pertaining to proper percussion technique, which will enable them to achieve the most proper and efficient percussion technique. This technique is taught within enjoyable musical contexts and will greatly benefit students in avoiding overuse injuries that come with improper playing techniques. Students will learn how to read music through studying snare drum exercises/solos and drum set exercises/charts. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to perform in various cabaret and events within New Haven Academy of Performing Arts.
Many of our events have become a yearly beloved tradition, such as the Halloween Cabaret, The NHAOPA Christmas Spectacular, Valentine's Cabaret and Annual End of the School Year Showcase. Performing in these and other shows is optional, where students make a personal decision with their teachers and parents as to which rshows they wish and are ready to participate in. Our events are very organized, and they are a lot of fun.
