POLICIES:

REGISTRATION:
An annual registration fee of $50 per student (maximum of 2 registration fees per family) is due at the time of registration. This fee is non-refundable.

ATTENDANCE:
Private lessons are a standing weekly appointment. Your enrollment reserves the same lesson time with your instructor each week, and our instructors build their teaching schedules around these reserved appointments. To provide consistent, high-quality instruction while honoring the commitments of all students, families, and instructors, we follow the attendance and make-up policies outlined below.

Tuition is paid to reserve your student's weekly lesson time throughout the academic year, not on a per-lesson basis.

Attending your scheduled lesson on time each week is essential to your student's progress. Your enrollment reserves your instructor's time exclusively for your student during their designated weekly lesson time. As private lessons are a standing weekly appointment, they should take priority when scheduling vacations, field trips, school music obligations, musicals, plays, sports, and other personal commitments. Because your instructor has committed this time exclusively to your student, your reserved lesson time remains unavailable to other students, regardless of attendance.

Cases of extended illness will be considered on an individual basis.

As a courtesy to your instructor, please notify the business office as soon as possible if your student will be absent or running late. Students who arrive late may not receive their full lesson time, as instructors must remain on schedule for the remainder of the day.

If no advance notice is provided, instructors will wait for up to one-third of the scheduled lesson time before marking the student as a No Show. Once a student has been marked as a No Show, the lesson is forfeited.

Providing notice of an absence does not exempt a student from paying contracted tuition. Tuition reserves your instructor's exclusive weekly appointment and is not based solely on lesson attendance. Lessons canceled with less than 1 hour notice are not eligible for a Video Make-Up Lesson in accordance with your membership's make-up benefits.

Video Make-Up Lessons are intended for occasional unavoidable absences and should not be viewed as a substitute for regular weekly attendance. Consistent participation is essential to your student's long-term growth and success.

There are no exceptions to this policy.

Video Make-Up Lessons are a courtesy to students enrolled in our EZ Pay Membership, each student is eligible to receive up to four (4) Video Make-Up Lessons per academic year.

Video Make-Up Lesson Guidelines:
  • Students may receive two (2) Video Make-Up Lessons during the Fall Semester (September through December) and two (2) Video Make-Up Lessons during the Spring Semester (January through June).

  • Unused Video Make-Up Lessons do not roll over from one semester to the next or from one academic year to another.

  • Video Make-Up Lessons may not be used for consecutive missed lessons. Students must attend at least one scheduled in-person or live online lesson before becoming eligible for another Video Make-Up Lesson.

  • A Video Make-Up Lesson is a personalized lesson created specifically for your student. Your instructor will prepare a custom Video Make-Up Lesson based on your student's current curriculum, recent progress, and the material that would have been covered during the missed lesson. Each Video Make-Up Lesson is uploaded to your student portal, allowing your student to continue making meaningful progress from home.

Engage and Thrive Members are eligible for in-person or live online make-up lessons in accordance with the benefits included in their membership package.

Group Classes:
There are no make-up lessons for group classes unless the instructor is absent and a substitute instructor is unavailable.

Tuition: Tuition is not prorated, refunded, or credited for missed lessons or classe
s.

Please Note: There are no make-up lessons for group classes unless the instructor is absent and a substitute instructor is unavailable. Tuition is not prorated, refunded, or credited for missed lessons or classes.

Holidays:
The Academy does not close on all Holidays. You are not billed for holidays that we are closed on and no make up will be scheduled for those dates.  Should your regularly scheduled lesson land on a holiday that the academy is open and you do not want to attend your lesson, you would need to either use your make up lesson if applicable or forfeit that lesson. Please Review Our Academic Calendar HERE

Instructor Absence:
In the event the Academy is closed or your instructor is unable to make your scheduled lesson, we will work with you to find a mutually convenient time to reschedule your lesson. In the event an instructor cannot teach, there may be occasions where a substitute instructor will be used to keep regularly scheduled lessons or make up the lesson missed.

Performances/Rehearsals:

Should your regularly scheduled private lesson conflict with a required New Haven Academy of Performing Arts or Broadway on Main rehearsal or performance, attendance at that rehearsal or performance shall be considered your private lesson for that week. Participation in rehearsals and performances is an integral component of the educational and practical training provided through our programs.

Sick lessons:
In the event that you are not feeling well we recommend you do not skip your lesson but rather take your lesson online via Skype or FaceTime with your teacher. This will save you from having to use a make up lesson. If you are too sick to have your lesson you will need to reschedule as a make-up lesson (per your plans allowance) or forfeit the lesson.

Inclement Weather:

If New Haven Academy of Performing Arts closes due to inclement weather, private lessons will not be canceled. Instead, your instructor will conduct your lesson online via FaceTime, Skype, or another approved virtual platform at your regularly scheduled lesson time.

If the Academy remains open but you choose not to travel due to weather conditions, the same policy applies. Your lesson will be held online at your scheduled time.
If you choose not to participate in your online lesson, you may:
  • Use one of your available Video Make-Up Lessons (EZpay students), or an in-person make-up lesson if you are a Gold or VIP Member, subject to your membership benefits; or
  • Forfeit the lesson.
Tuition will not be prorated or refunded due to weather-related absences.

Schedule Change:
All requests for changes in your permanent instructor, lesson day, and lesson time should be made in writing to our business office. This can only be done once per academic year for EZ Pay Plan students.

Student Withdrawal:

Private lesson enrollment is an academic-year commitment. Your enrollment reserves your instructor's weekly lesson time for the duration of your Enrollment Agreement, allowing us to provide consistent, uninterrupted instruction throughout the school year.

Should you wish to discontinue lessons before the end of your Enrollment Agreement, written notice must be provided to the business office at least 30 days in advance.

Providing notice of withdrawal does not cancel or shorten your Enrollment Agreement. Students who withdraw before the end of their contracted term remain financially responsible for all remaining tuition payments through the end of their Enrollment Agreement, regardless of lesson attendance.

The Academy may, at its sole discretion, reassign your reserved lesson time to another student. Such reassignment does not alter or release the financial obligations outlined in your Enrollment Agreement.
Tuition is not prorated, refunded, or credited for early withdrawal.

Dismissal:
New Haven Academy of Performing Arts reserves the right to dismiss a student for any reason with out refunds, including, but not limited to: frequent absence; disciplinary problems; overdue tuition payments; and noncompliance with our policies.

Lesson Fees:
Tuition is charged on the first of the month via Autopay from any checking account (no fee) or major credit card (plus a 3% administrative fee). In the event that your monthly charge fails to go through on the first, a $35 fee will be added to your account. Payments made after the 15th of the month will be subject to an additional $35 late fee. Please note: Students will not be permitted to attend lessons until any outstanding balance has been paid in full. Lessons missed due to an unpaid balance are not eligible for makeup lessons or credits.

Release of Liability:
Parents, legal guardians of minor students, and adult students fully waive and relinquish any and all claims against New Haven Academy of Performing Arts and it’s owners, instructors, and employees from injuries or damages as a result of participating in any activities associated with New Haven Academy of Performing Arts.

Photo Waiver:
Photographs or videos of registered students taken during events, lessons or classes with New Haven Academy of Performing Arts are considered for publication and public use, unless the student, parent, or legal guardian submits a written request to the contrary at the time of registration.

Child Safety:
To ensure your child’s safety, please pick him/her up promptly from their class/lesson time. New Haven Academy of Performing Arts instructors and administrative staff are not responsible for supervising children outside of class/lesson times.

Video Surveillance & Family Safety:
New Haven Academy of Performing Arts (NHAOPA) and Cabaret on Main Theater are proud to be an Official Family Safety Plan Music School.

To help provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment, our facilities utilize 24-hour video and audio surveillance through out designated areas of our buildings. Security cameras are used to help protect our students, staff, volunteers, guests, and property.

As part of our Family Safety Plan, we also maintain glass viewing windows in lesson rooms, conduct comprehensive background checks on all staff, provide full-time office supervision, and welcome parents to observe their child's lessons through our open-door policy.

By entering our facilities, you acknowledge that video and audio recording may be in progress.
